And Thus Begins the Epic Week of Work
April 6, 2007 |
Not a whole lot going on the last few days, but the next week or so is going to be pretty hectic, as I have all of next week off from the day job. Knock on wood, but I should be able to completely finish all of the work I want to do at the Austin house, and hopefully get at least a full day or two of work done at the 1002 Main St. property.
Other than the tile backsplash for the kitchen (which’ll have to obviously wait until the new countertops are in, which likely won’t happen next week), most of what’s left are odds and end sorts of things, as far as painting one bedroom, some exterior painting, some landscaping to spruce up things, finishing a bit of tiling on the patio, re-staining the deck in the backyard, etc. I also need to finally get around to putting GFCI outlets where they need to be, clean all the windows and blinds, hang some closet doors that the previous owners had removed and we never replaced, and I’m sure nine million other small things I’m forgetting. I also have to clean all the stored junk out of the attic, which is going to be less than fun.
It’s kind of sick to say I’m excited about the prospect of a week of solid work, but, umm, I sort of am. The Austin house has kind of been dragging on me psychologically, albatross-like, as it’s been slightly negative cash flow since we’ve been renting it, and we have a decent chunk of equity in it. The idea of sinking profits back into another local property is much more exciting, even if it’s another rental, as it’s just so much easier to work on/manage stuff that’s not an hour’s drive away.
Still waiting on some roofing estimates for the Main St. house, and should hear today about the first bid for the countertops at the Austin house, which I’m crossing my fingers and praying isn’t too painfully big of a number.
