So I was merrily (well, umm, not so merrily) caulking away yesterday at the Main St. house, when my cell phone rings. Since my caulk smoothing technique involves the judicious use of fingers, I was pretty indisposed to fish my phone out of my pocket and take the call. Whoever it is leaves a message. Three minutes later, cell phone goes off again.

I grudgingly go wash up at the hose outside, trying to find my Zen place, as this usually means my wife is calling with something she deems very important, that I ultimately deem less than very important, and not worthy of completely dropping whatever I was doing to immediately answer. (I love the convenience of cell phones and it’s pretty much an invaluable tool but man, I do not like the side effects of being perpetually contactable sometimes).

Long story short, we got three offers for the Austin house in the first full week it was on the market, and one of them is for the full listing price with closing in just two weeks. Plus our realtor was expecting one more offer later last night, and they were apparently aware of the other offers we’d already received. So, umm, yeah, hot damn. Obviously deals can fall through, nothing is set in stone, but still, hot damn.

The pessimistic, glass half-full side of me could focus on the fact that the above news meant that we could have likely listed it higher or could have tried to sell it ourselves, but screw that. I’m just going to focus on the happy, relieved side of things, as far as hopefully selling it quickly and all of the extra work I put into the place paying off in the end.

It’s the last one that was bugging me, as I was pretty confident we’d sell the place for a nice profit, simply due to appreciation in general, but I wasn’t at all sure that some of the work I did (slate backsplash in kitchen, tile in the master bath, decorative stone on the front walkway) would pay any dividends or justify the time it sucked up, when I had the Main St. house sitting there, with much work to be done.

Meeting with our realtor today to actually sign things and move forward, and keeping my fingers crossed that all goes smoothly from here on out, as far as the Austin house.

Still chugging along at Main St., but I’m beginning to worry a bit about my self-imposed June 15th deadline, as far as finishing up the work I personally plan on doing. It’s going to be close, but I think painting all of the window trim (interior and exterior) isn’t going to happen by then, due to the ginormous number of windows in the house. Not quite as stressed as I was previously, with positive developments as far as selling the Austin house, so it’s a bit easier to be calm about it taking however long it takes, as long as I’m plugging away and making progress.

Congratulations. Mind you, I’m utterly jealous (still waiting for such a call myself)… but happy for you nonetheless. That’s awesome news.
