Despite a few yipping and yawing mood swings over the last week, my head’s in a decent place.  While I shouldn’t say such things and tempt ye olde fates, I think I’m back on track to be done with the Main St. house by the time I leave for Vegas on July 5th.

This last week was pretty insane, as far as working very late nights at Main St., wrapping up things at the Austin house, and related fun stuff. The Austin house was especially hard, as it’s easy to mentally cross it off the list with closing scheduled for tomorrow, but we had a ton of crap stored in the attic, not to mention a fridge to move out of the garage, the furniture we used for staging to be moved, and the handful of repairs they requested.

True to nature of frustrating last-minute repairs that should be simple but aren’t, the tiny leak on the left side of the kitchen sink proved elusive, as it was crappy chrome pipes and fittings, and try as I might, I couldn’t completely track it down, managing to chase the wee tiny leak here and there and everywhere. Finally broke down and called a plumber and $107 later, voila, no more leaks.  Pretty damn expensive PVC, that was, but worth it to have it done, so that I could focus on more important things like crawling around in the attic, repairing vent screens.

But things are mostly done, with just a few truckloads of stuff left to haul away today. I’m also going to be a good Samaritan and actually mow the yard, too, as I remember that being kind of frustrating when we first moved into the house, as far as dealing with knee high grass amidst the joys of moving in Texas in the summer.

Chugging along at the Main St. house, with just a bit of tiling left on the tub surround, then some trim painting, and I’m largely done with the interior work I’m doing. Dodged a bullet last week as I had the gas turned on finally, and I wasn’t sure about the state of the water heater. The previous owner didn’t bother to get the utilities turned on for the inspection, so I had to roll the dice a bit and hope the newer-looking gas water heater was in fact operational. I hadn’t needed gas service up until this point, but with repair/replacement of the furnace looming it was time to turn it on and cross my fingers. Turns out the water heater works fine, so thumbs up for that.

Pretty dang happy with how the kitchen has turned out, with the backsplash in place and the new ceiling and light fixture in. The ceiling was a bitch and soaked up way too much time, but it does look really good, and the slate backsplash pulls together the colors pretty nicely. Yea yeah, I know, photos photos photos.

I still have my moments of doubt in general, as far as the whole “What the hell am I doing, I’m just some dude and have no clue about interior design or color schemes and am just doing what I think looks good and who the hell knows if I’m right, gah” mindset, but they’re fewer and farther in between. And, again with the self-praise and daily affirmation bullshit, but I’m pretty confident I’m on the right track, as far as working with the existing features of the house whenever possible and stretching repair money for maximum impact.

We shall see, though, as the real test of that will be when I sell the dang place, not when I opine randomly here in ye olde bloggity blog.

Just my two cents: If it doesn’t scare you a little, you didn’t aim high enough.

In the end, you’ll do just fine. I’m sure of it.
