“You’re not on my flight.”

December 20, 2007 |

Finally back home from Vegas, but running on about 6 hours sleep over the last two days, so I’m barely here.

I made the mistake of flying on American Airlines, which is absolutely the last time that will ever happen. My flight out of Vegas was cancelled, yet no one bothered to either call me, page me, update the info at the departure gate I was supposed to depart from, or update the info on the arrivals/departures screens throughout the terminal.

I didn’t think much of the scheduled boarding time coming and going with no fanfare (or even an agent at the gate to answer questions), as that’s been standard fare the last two times I’ve flown on AA. When they finally updated their info on the screen at the gate, my flight had disappeared, with nary a trace of where I should be. Mmkay.

An agent finally showed up at gate, but absolutely refused to help me. Like, literally. I asked her if she could find out where I was supposed to be, if my flight had been cancelled, she said “You’re not on my flight” and stood there, silently staring at me.

“Yes ma’am, I know. But my boarding pass is for this gate, and I’m a customer of your airline. My flight must have been cancelled or moved to another gate. Can you please help me?”

“You’re not on my flight.”

“Can you really not take thirty seconds out of your time to help me find out where I need to go?”

“You’re not on my flight.”

“Yes ma’am, we covered that. For the record, this is just about the absolute worst customer service I’ve ever received. Everyone standing around overhearing this conversation is shaking their heads because of your complete and utter inability to provide even the slightest measure of competency and/or concern for customers. One last shot to salvage this: can you please help me?”

“You’re not on my flight.”

A random dude standing there finally had to help me and direct me to the right gate, as he’d overheard other people who suffered through the same situation earlier.

Well play, American Airlines, well played…

As far as house stuff, no real updates there. Still haven’t closed on House #1, which isn’t surprising but a little annoying, especially since I paid assorted filing fees to set up my wife with temporary power of attorney to close while I was gone. Shooting for a close sometime after Christmas but before the end of the year. We shall see.

The new furnace went into House #2 while I was gone, along with the new water heater and other plumbing work. We’re off to Tennessee on Friday until the day after Christmas, so not much work going on until we return.
